996 Hardtop

One of the disadvantages of a 996 - is what do you do with the hardtop during the summer??

Porsche have a wall - mounted rack - has anyone any experience in this? Are there any options?

Any thoughts would be usefull!

Tony.

I store mine in the Porsche cover leaning aginst the garage wall (standing on carpet and secured to wall with rope). Since I never use it I dont know if its easy or not to swap between floor and car...

Have persuaded my better half that the wall mounted rack - for my birthday - is an investment well worth having! Admired the electric hoists one can get but at over £750 she was not going to have it!

Have got to get finished the shower room, Will' s bedroom, our bedroom, etc.... before that!

Hi guys, sorry to hijack this thread but i am in the process of looking for an early 996 cab, probably a 98/99 with good spec - anything i should look out for above and beyond the usual coupe advice? Also, are the rear seats similar to those in the coupe - i have driven one but in the excitement i didnt really look!![:)]

thanks

My Son and I fitted the wall bracket for the hard top at the back of the garage last weekend. I must say, its very well designed, simple to fix and the top hangs simply and securely with the metal pins at the rear in two " tuning fork" arrangements. The flanges at the front which slot into the top of the windscreen have rubber covers with points which fit neatly into two holes on the bottom bar. Its a doddle putting it up and very neat!

Hi Tony, we have the Porker hardtop wall " hanging" system for the other half' s BoxterS,it works very well & is a must to avoid damaging expensive paintwork. Why not advertise for a second hand one in Porsche Post, you never know your luck.

Keeno, as far as I know the rear seats (read perches!!) are the same on Cab or Coupe. Have a read of the 2nd hand 996 thread elsewhere in this section & then do a seperate post if you need further info. All the best.

I got one of their wall hanging sytem brackets (**dy expensive!) and it was made incorrectly! Took it back to the OPC & have just heard that they have drilled the holes in the right place & put it together for me!

On the seats, in a Cab the backrest leans forward(!) not back & can be uncomfortable. However, using a Porsche booster seat to raise a child' s bum (oops!) up seems to be sufficient for this to be less of an issue.

Got a wall bracket for my Boxster' s hard top.(is it the same?) found it very easy to use(even for a mere girl like me!).will be looking to sell when the GT3 arrives.but might be persuaded to part with it before.
