996 Heated Front Screens

Hmmmm far better to phone in with .. "Sorry can't get in I'm snowed under"....

Walk to the pub and spend the money you saved on beer!!!!! Then you can't drive anyway!!

When I first saw the title I thought "aye, aye, someone's got their car the wrong way round..!!"
Hehe!

It's always intrigued me that Ford can offer these things in almost the most basic of Fiestas but virtually no other car manufacturer fitst them as standard. I can only presume that Ford have some sort of patent on the idea because it's the most wonderful feature to have on a car. It's the one thing I miss, having got rid of my Fiesta work car and replaced it with a Golf. The Golf is SO much the better car - but that windscreen is really missed.

To add as an aftermarket item is a bit messy since you've got to find a place for the switch - no big deal I suppose but add-on bits like that don't go down well with an otherwise nicely planned dash.

Regards

Dave

A friend in Toronto has one on his Range Rover. I'm sure it's very useful, but the tiny lines across the windscreen, once you notice them, become incredibly irritating.

It occurred to me that you could wire it in parallel to the heated rear window.

Yes, if it had the fine wires as the HRW it would be annoying, I agree. However, the Ford HFS doesn't seem to have those. I've got an old Galaxy and the screen on that is heated. You can't see any lines, but close up it has a mottled gold-coloured appearance. Maybe that's the patented feature, i.e. no wires.

There are wires in the Ford HFW. However, they are extremely fine (hair-like) and sit between the layers of glass. I have it on my Rangie and it's superb. It defrosts a heavily snowed and frozen screen in around twenty seconds.
