996 iPhone Conection

Hi
can anyone give me some ideas for connecting an iPhone to my 2002 996 to enable me to pay music from the phone though the Bose system.

if possible can I also use the phone to make/receive call though the cars original system or is it simpler to just fit a parrot etc

many thanks

Many options - from very cheaply ( with some loss of sound quality ) with FM transmission of iphone sound to car radio such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-WIRELESS-MP3-FM-RADIO-TRANSMITTER-HANDS-FREE-FOR-MOBILE-phones-universal-/141501244158?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
but many other slightly more expensive and probably better quality types out there
through to a lot more expensive with a replacement of the porsche fitted head unit with an aftermarket version - there are a lot of references on this site to exactly how and what.

Thanks dij

yes my kids use the transmitters in their cars, cheap but not great quality.

looking for something a bit better but don't want to change the head unit from the original with its ancient looking sat nav & telephone my kids think it's retro!!!

My car has a Dension kit fitted. It is plumbed in though the CD function (pressing CD button on the PCM2 enables ipod/iPhone) the 6 disc system is now inoperable. Trouble is, changing tracks and fiddling with the phone/ipod while driving is really no good. You really need a system that will let you control your ipod music from the head unit or you will cause an accident while looking for/at your phone for that Springsteen playlist, just a matter of time...

Paul, if your car is Model Year 2002 (pre-September 2002) then it will be PCM1, with the non-MOST Bose system, so the Dension-type system won't be compatible.

The MY2002 Bose is unusual, as it amplifies the speaker outputs from the PCM. Therefore, it might be easier to fit a Parrot system, or as Karl says, an iTrip or similar.

Thanks for the updates.

I was going to get a parrot MK19200 but saw this on another forum ref 2002 996 with bose-

This kit isn't suitable for your car with the BOSE amp as the speakers are separates not full range.
When the Porsche has the BOSE speaker upgrade it sends low level audio from the radio to the amplifier.
You can get an interface that drops the output of the Parrot down to low level audio for BOSE systems but my experience in fitting these is that they sound very distorted.
If they go in after the amp then they will be sending full range audio to the woofers in the doors and to the mid high dash speakers which again doesn't sound good.

Does anyone know a parrot model that will work as I would like to be able to use the phone handsfree also so a parrot was the ideal solution

I rushed out and had one fitted on mine though it is a 2004 and frankly it is rubbish. The phone part works well enough but the parrot only streams music through the fronts. Its just awful.

Hi paulctarge, not sure if you're still looking for options on this or if you managed to sort something?

I fitted a Pioneer SPH DA-120 just before Christmas but was undecided if I wanted to keep the PCM1 unit and fit a parrott or swap it out altogether. I'm really pleased I went for the Pioneer unit so if you want any help/advice on this let me know

[attachment=IMG_20160314_142714.jpg] Here is my Pioneer SPH-120 bought a Brodit iphone holder the iphone can be connected through Bluetooth or with the usb cable to enable the car play and it all works brilliantly, the hands free works very clearly as well, I have retro fitted all Bose speakers I have just bout a Kenwood powered under seat subwoofer with remote so it can be adjusted better.

I did the same bought the pioneer sph-da120 when I took out the CD-R-23 radio in the car already it has fibre optic but I have now found an adapter to converter the optic so I can still all the wiring and the original amp. Will let you all know if it's that simple
