I Have a 996 c2 cab 2002 and when i first got the car in 2006 evetythig was sweat. then in late 2008 the key fob worn out called a couple of porsche specialists who said new key and head £200 +, rather confused as issue just fob , called dealer told £55.00 for new head, collected and worked, then

The problem i have is i thought tyhe fob was worn, so started to use the key t6o enter vehicle as well as drive car, just put a new battery in the key, and seems fine apart from the fact that the remote key does not work on the car no more, it lights on the fob, but that's it also chanked battery on old head that was replaced by dealer again lights up but car does not recognise it,

please help

So how did you turn the alarm/immobiliser off? Or was it a race against time to get the key in the ignition each journey?

Thats correct once i open the door with the key i have about 3 seconds before the 1st bleep of the alarm, so have to be quick

Do Not understand keys are correct fron dealer, how can a key loose if it has its programming

Was the new fob paired with the car by the dealer?

There is a condition whereby if you operate the transmitter a lot of times whilst out of range of the car it can lose it's sync. But it's in the 1000's of times if I recall.
I guess this could happen if it gets jammed "on" for some reason. A remote possibility (pun not intended!)

Also the possibility it's the receiver,

Does the second key work ok? There should be 2.

Yes it was paired by the dealer, but only have 1 key that ios complete, i belive that the rubber worn, prior to the new battery, but used key in it till yesterday, when i purchased 2 batteries, one for the car key and one for the old head that was replaced by the dealer, so if it is possible that the proggramming has been lost, what bare the possible soloutions, as i now with some cars when you do not change the battery after a certain time f the current battery being dead, you would normally put the key in the ignition and drive for about 10 minuites and the car would then respond to the new battery ion the car

You can reset the transmitter processor by inserting the key battery wrong polarity (wrong way up) for 2-3 seconds, and then put it back in the right way up.

Edit: By the way, you can buy the 'rubber' button part of the key head separately.
