996 Millenium Edition

I'm going to test drive a 996 Millenium Edition this week. Can folks confirm there were only ever 911 made and that they have all the extras included into them ? A Google(tm) of this edition tells me that the one I want to test drive should have all the extras.

How do people rate them? A gimmick or worth a further look ? Are the residuals for such an edition any better/worse than other 996s ?

Many thanks.

I thought 1,963 were made (1963 - date of first 911) or am I thinking of something else?

Extras/differences included a power upgrade pack, arctic silver centre console, a 911 badge on the engine compartment lid, a 911 anniversary badge just below the centre console, polished alloys, turbo front spoiler but with the grilles colour matched, GT silver as standard....there must be more, but I can't remember off hand.

I think theres a bit of a mix up here - The Millenium and Anniversary were two different models - Concept is talking about the Anniversary which was a celebration model to celebrate 40 years of the 911 - the Millenium was a 2000 special loaded car of which I don't know how many were built - I've only seen a few ads so I guess they must be pretty rare unless it was just an option pack order.
Regards
Dave

My understanding of the Millenium edition is that there were only 911 of them made for MY00 and they were all made the same specialist option colour (Violet Chromaflair Pearlescent Metalic), a kind of very dark almost black purple that changes colour in sunlight. The model has polished Turbo look monobloc 18" Turbo Wheels with high gloss finish (7.5x18 with 225/40 ZR 18 tyres at the front and 10x18 with 265/35 ZR 18 tyres at the back). The wheel hub cover also has a high-gloss polished finish and a monochrome Porsche coat of arms. It was made only in Carrera 4 Coupe models and has a sport-type running gear, M030 suspension (RoW only) but no performance modifications. It came with a sunroof, a rear window wiper, a windshield with green sun tint, Litronic headlights with headlight beam adjustment (Row only), and headlight washers. The exhaust tailpipes are larger in diameter than normal and are chrome-plated stainless steel. The rear lid is decorated with a chromed "911" logo instead of "Carrera 4". The interior was furnished with a plaque engraved with "911 Millenium" that is attached to the batwing switch cover. The interior is very special and is almost entirely leather which was tanned brown in colour. All equipment including the heating and ventilation outlets are covered with this leather which is tastefully co-ordinated with the dark maple wood furnishings. The three-spoke sports steering wheel is a combination of wood and leather, the transmission shift lever, the parking brake lever, the inner door handles and the covers of the door storage compartments are all supplied in dark maple. The roof liner is Alcantara black. The Porsche coat of arms on the three-spoke sports steering wheel is silver not gold. It has full electric seats with memory function and lumbar support on the driver's side, seat heating, aluminium-coloured instrument dials, cruise control, on-board computer, PSM and PCM including a telephone with passive handset and Bose digital sound system. All-in-all a very beautiful car.

Well there you go, I was indeed talking about the anniversary edition.

Maybe I should change my login from concept to confused.[&:]

Old age creeping up on me?

Berny - How did you manage that without a single spelling mistake? [;)]

Oops! Just noticed "metalic", sorry!

Not sure I fancy all that dark maple though.

Damn it! I forgot to mention the partridge in a pair tree.

Spelling? I write books for a living................but thank g-d for the computer spell checker ;)

Well, I took the 996 Millenium edition for a test drive. The Kaufmann didn't come in the car with me (this was from an OPC) which I found interesting [8D]. I had 2 hours of fun !

My RHD Boxster was my intro into the Porsche world but this was a little special. Its got all the extras you would want (OK, it hasn't got the Bose Sound which my Boxster has got) but its got everything else. I reckon there are hides from about 5 cows in the cockpit from the smell you get when you first open the door.

On a nearby motorway, we hit 220 kph and it was shure good [8D] Me and a Lambo were doing quite nicely until we hit the 120 kph restricted zone. I was enjoying myself so much that I nearly didn't spot the fuel warning light (which seemed to have come on in record time).

One thing which did strike me was the steering which seemed to be little more, ahem, "lively" than my Boxster. This occurred at higher speeds. When taking lower speeds e.g 50-60mph and around corners, the handling was as I expected. The 996 I drove has 88K KM (54K miles) on the clock and the tyres seem in good condition, although the TÃœV/AU (MOT) should confirm the condition of the tyres. The Porsche dealer talked about tyres warming up and that this should explain the lively steering during the test.

I'm a 911 newbie so be gentle. Is my experience with the handling expected behaviour for a MY00 996 C4 ?

Thanks for the help so far. The links were of great help.
