i have a 1998 996 C2- and realy like it, but i always wanted a air cooled 993- now i have a chance of buying a 1997 R reg one of the last 993 C4 Oh what shall I do??- could sell the Cb in the better weather with the fitted hard top- should sell OK for the right money
dont know how the 993 will drive in comparison to the 996- only had this for a few months- do they drive as well??
Are they worth more this one is £27500.00 with 60k miles ( is that ok??)and will they hold there price better- i am told that the 993 is the last proper 911 is that right??
Hi
It depends on why you always wanted an aircooled 993, and why you really like your current 996?
As everyone will advise you, they drive differently (both both great in their own way..) you need to sit in a 993, look at the instrument layout, interior etc. You definitely need to drive a 993 - preferably one with a good suspension set up - and see if it really makes you smile.
Assess realistically what you want the car for - is it going to be a business tool that does 20,000 miles a year, or is it saved for the weekends and summer evenings? Do you want to drive it on a track, use it for foreign tours, or just down to the local pub?. Is depreciation important to you - how long are you likely to keep the car - 1-2 years or 5-10?
How important is having a warrantied car to you?
These factors can all influence your preference, but in the end you can answer all these questions, and we still not would be able to advise you (although it would give us a hint [
] ) as you will prefer either one or the other and nothing we say will change that [
].
You need to treat the decision similarly to choosing between a BMW and an Audi - which one do you prefer, and which one most closely fits your particular needs
Sorry not to be able to definitively answer your question, but in the end it comes down to personal preferences and requirements - and we cannot determine those - although the 993 looks like a good price...
When you say "drive as well" - what do you like about driving the 996?
It's a nice decision to have [
] but I would suggest simply driving the 993 and seeing if you prefer it - don't get too hung up on the "last of the breed / proper Porsche" discussion - they are all made in the same factory in Stuttgart....
My 2p, and there probably is not a wrong choice to be made
