996 Prices

As a newcomer to Porsche and a potential buyer of a 996 C4S (2003), I am wondering if 996 prices are falling or holding steady. Can anyone give me an idea?

They're still falling in general. They are a bit mileage sensitive & specification / colour makes a small difference too. Buy on condition but be aware that it won't be a future appreciating classic like some of the aircooled cars. If you want something with a low to zero depreciation curve, look to the GT cars (GT3 & GT2). These are where the future values are likely to increase as they are at the bottom of the curve now.

friend of mine just sold his for £10k.nice condition 80k miler 99 reg they cant go much lower i wouldnt think

even allowing for depreciation to zero and 2k pa average maintenance costs (lets be realistic things will go wrong) these are absurdly cheap and brilliant cars some small risk of a major engine or drivetrain failure which isnt economic to fix but hey simply buy a replacement [:D]

996 Turbos have stopped depreciating and have slightly risen in value, getting very hard to find anything decent south of £23/4k. As always the wide body's have the lowest depreciation.

Would that be Dead or Alive Gordon?[:D][;)]

996 prices are still falling. You can get a reasonable mileage well spec'd car for sub 9k now, although some people do still try their luck around the 12k figure. I Px'd my 996 earlier this year for 8k, I never thought they would fall to four figures, let alone so soon. I advertised my car at offers over the PX value before I changed it, I had zero inquiries. It was a high-ish miler with 114k on the clock, but it was mint, had all new discs and pads, all new M030 set up, alloys refurbed tons of new parts and all only around 200 miles before I sold it. I'm afraid the way things are going, sadly I don't see much of a future for the regular 996 market. If I bought another in the future it would be a GT or a Turbo. Cheers,

Yep, I reckon mine's dropped £2k in 18 months. Some of the prices being asked for 03 cars are insane - £25k! I think 13 - 14k is more realistic. There's practically no difference between a pre face lift 03 and a 99 car but the 99 car would be around 8 to 9k. You pay a lot just to get a newer plate and maybe less mileage.
