996 Purchase

I am in the process of purchasing a Ocean blue 1998 996 that I am due to inspect and collect (all being well!) on Friday 2nd. Could an one out there please give me a few tips as to what I should look for so I don't make a complete fool of myself. I'm purchasing the car from a specialist dealer.

Many thanks

Nick Fletcher

Hi Nick
Ive owned a 996 for seven months now, its a 2002 carrera 2 which im sure has a different engine to the one your looking at. However if you want to give me a ring on 01253 791444 i might be able to answer some of your questions on ownership.

Hi Island,
sorry you didn't get any quick feedback, I think we are all playing catch up after the Xmas break. Did you buy it ? Let us know if you need any further information & I would be happy to oblige, alternatively search the 996 forum there is a stack of information on this very subject.

Hi Grant

I think I left it a bit late asking for tips, but I can tell you I did purchase the car. I bought it from Cridfords in Ripley, Surrey. This is my second car from them - last year a Boxster and no problems, so if any one is looking for a car give then a call.

The 996 is a standard C16 in ocean blue all leather 17 inch wheels a/c etc. Very pleased so far.

Any advice on tyres, I'm keen on good grip over road noise?

Kind regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

Glad you had good service, I had nothing but problems with a 993 I purchased 3 yrs back, in the end I only kept it 2 months before giving it back !!!

Let us know how you get on with your 996 purchase.

Mark

Island,
congratulations on your new toy, I hope you enjoy it.
Talking tyres, if it was me I'd wait until they need replacing & then negotiate with your local OPC garage (or similar) for a nice set 18 inch wheels complete with new tyres. A set of new tyres all round would cost you around £600-sh & a nice new gleaming set of the latest 18" Carrera wheels would cost around £1450 (incl VAT) including tyres. It will make the car look great & add a lot more grip.
Tyre favourites are Contisports N2's & N rated Pzero's...remember all porsches need N rated tyres otherwise this may affect your insurance.
