996 Rear Fog Lighting

Hi,

Easy quick question!

I noticed my recently acquired 98 996 C4 only has one rear fog light (offside) lit. Is this correct as with some other German cars or have I a blown bulb?

Many thanks,

Brian

Going back to my VW/Audi days, they also had just one fog light at the rear.

However, there were infact one lamp fitted on each side but only one bulb installed.

Maybe the Porsche's also have two lamps but one bulb installed and it would be as simple as fitting a new bulb?

Not sure if there are other reasons or regulations why there are only one though?

In the Boxster, you will find that there are 2 bulbs fitted, but only 1 connected!
I think the 996 is likely to be the same.

My 996 also had only one fog light, but two bulbs installed. I connected the near side one, before its M O T. Hope Ive done the right thing. Dave 10ken

My understanding is that there is deliberately only one high intensity rear fog light for safety reasons. With both sides illuminated it is much more difficult to detect when the brake lights come on hence increasing the risk of a rear end collision.

Therefore it is best to only have one side opearting.

In my humble (and cantankerous) opinion, the majority of drivers in Britain should have BOTH bulbs disconnected. That way, not only can we see when they are braking, but also we can see most of what else is going on around us on a dark wet night! [:)]
