996 service costs per annum? 2k realistic ?

Hi there,

Im considering very serious in aquiring a 996TT but today a dealer told me off - said that the car eats miles as fast as it eats pounds ( sterling... ) on servicing.

I've always read that the 996 shares the same block as the lemans GT1 and even than the GT3 MKI - a very strong one, so they are pretty much reliable if properly mantained.

The car I'm considering is supposedly due soon ( on the summer ) for a major service, its under OPC warranty and I would like to service it there to extend the warranty again, so I was considering these costs :

£ 1024 - major service
£ 124 - change brake fluid
£ 15 - top up oil
£ 254 - check geometry yadada

thats adds up to circa £1400, inc vat - these are OPC quoted prices ( found on the webpage ). plus a 800 or so for changing the pads on both front or rear or even a 300 ish for changing the discs of either if necessary ( although they seem in good condition )

so 2, or 2.5k is a realistic value to keep a 996TT per annum or not ? excluding the 900 for extending warranty ? should I stick to a C4S with lower prices in servincing ( plus the car costs few grand less, giving me more "room" to spend on service ) ?

advice needed from 996tt owners ( or ex owners ) and from other 996 "normal" , ie non tt, owners which can share their anual budget ( exclude trackday costs, tires, etc etc, since I'll do a couple this year but not much more than that ).

Thanks in advance

My costs in the last 12 months for 10,000 miles, ( Well actually all cost is this week):-
£350, minor service
£850, waste gate pipe snapped plus a few bits, heat sheilds loose etc
£205 tax
£480 two rear tyres
No brakes or front tyres in that.

Service was the lowest cost one of the three so I would say £2k is probably too low more like £2500.

All I can say is I had a Cayman loan car and boy I couldn't wait to get back into my Turbo! You forget just how fast these things are![:D][:D] PS Buy mine as I now have two!

theres not a huge difference in running costs between a c4s and a tt. The brakes/tyres are the same, so same replacement costs, warranty same cost, slight difference in spark plug change service and fuel, insurance for my tt was cheaper than my c2 for some reason!

There should be little difference between a std car and a turbo in running costs, sevicing seems to be 30% more expensive for the bigger services at a specialist, you will go through more tyres! the engines are more reliable.

On Servicing Northways near Reading charge only £155v for 12k, £395+v for 24 k service and £495+v for 48k, a 4 wheel alignment is £150+v, so ignoring mega big items which should be covered by the warranty , your £2k would be enough using a specialist I would suggest you will need £3 to £4k if you are going to use an OPC for everything as they also tend to take liberties. You can always have wear and tear items done by the specialist, if getting the service done elsewhere invalidates the warranty, then just have that done at the OPC.
