996 Soft Top Replacement

Hi all,

Can someone recomend where I can get the soft top replaced on my 996?

Originally it would have been a plastic window on a blue top but it was replaced (very badly) some years ago with a very ill fitting glass rear window item.

Current issues are as follows:
1 - Frame does not fully close up against the windscreen frame at the front.
2 - Toneau metal pannel remains slightly raised when locked in place (Current rear glass is large/ full size so when lowered does not sit flat and im told this could be causing the whole frame not to lower enough).
3 - Tear on soft top where it catches on toneau locking catch when lowered.
4 - Soft top does not line up properly from left to right (more material on the drivers side so looking from the rear the top leans to the passenger side).

My local specialist is not keen on taking on the work due to previous botching. My local Porsche main dealer is happy to do it and very confident they can return it to factory quality in terms of panel gaps and fit but they can only replace the top with what the car left the factory with so it would mean going back to a plastic window. When I bought the car I had a reduction in price to allow for the work needed so want to get it fixed but would rather replace with a glass rear window if possible as I like the look and also like having demister on the rear window etc.

I found BAS International (http://www.car-hood.co.uk/) who sell a glass replacement top with a narrower rear glass which im told eliminates issues with the larger rear glass not allowing the frame to fully fold flat but would be interested to hear if anyone recomends them or if you have recomended alternatives nearer to where I live (Much Hadham, East Herts) as Bas is in South Wales so quite a drive.

Thanks.

I got the BAS roof on my Boxster and am 100%
Happy with it and their service.

Whether they can fix problems too, rather than just
Replace I don't know

Hi - not sure where you are located, but this firm Trimmania do excellent work on alll trim and complete soft top replacement - I know for a fact Reading OPC send them the cars they can't attend to themselves - they had a brand new delivery mileage 991 Cab in last time I was down there and they were fitting a custom hood they had made up to the customers colour spec.

They've done leather trim work for me which has been outstanding, and if I was going to get a soft-top done there is no doubt in my mind where I'd be heading!

Good luck.
