996 Speakers

has anyone changed the standard broadband speakers in a 996. What did you fit and was it worth it.

I have not had a look at mine as have not been brave enough to get any tools near my car yet. I believe they are a one way 4x6 speaker. I find the speakers a bit tinny and was thinking of fitting the Kenwood 4X6 2 ways as a straight swap. Not sure if the money is worth spending though or how much better the sound would be.

These are the one I was thinking of, does anyone have an opinion?

Check this thread back in January (I am interested in doing the same & remembered this)

Following from a recent thread regarding the standard sound system in Porsches, I thought the following may be useful to someone.

Having decided that the sound from the standard fitment was a little thin and reedy, I decided to investigate some reasonable cost options to improve the quality a little. I had already changed the Porsche CD/Radio for a Becker Traffic-Pro, which some of you will be aware is the same unit, but with Sat-Nav built-in, an excellent unit by-the-way.

After contacting several in-car specialists I opted to change the standard speakers, and install a 2-channed amplifier. The standard speakers turned out to be single cone paper type, no tweeters, despite the grills implying that there were. These were replaced with new 4" low profile speakers plus tweeters in the front, with cross-over networks, and upgraded speakers in the rear (my car only had the 4 speaker option). The difference is quite dramatic, the sound now has depth, and volume without distortion, and the total cost for the speaker/amp configuration £500.00

Hi Gaxor
I have now changed my company name from 001 Mobile Sounds, (bought my partner out) plus the name didn't represent my goals as specialists.
We are now called Torque Systems at the same address, I've now got my 996 I've always wanted and just found your post here thanks.
The speakers where from Focal.

Any advise I can give please e-mail Paul@torquesystems.co.uk

Let us know how you get on.

Glad that you are pleased - I said I thought it would make a positive impression.

Be interested to hear your thoughts on the sub as I didn't get this for mine due to having door speakers upgraded.

Hi mate,

the sub looks good, 150 RMS, its about 6 inches deep so they will need to cut away some of the carpet and sound deadening to fit it in under the seat, its good quality though and as I am the first one (doner) I am getting it done with a good discount. I can then lose a bit of bass on the speakers and use this sub for my bass. Its remote control too.Having it done tomorrow so will let you know.

As my seat was manual they could not fit the speaker underneath. I had the speaker fitted in the passenger footwell instead, its fine as its covered by mat and also can't be damaged as it's well protected. The sound now is fantastic. What a difference it's made.
