996 Speedo/Clocks. Faulty Temp Gauge

Hi.
The needle on my temp gauge has got a mind of its own. It doesnt reset towards and beyond the number 40 when you turn the ignition off. When you next turn on the ignition the needle is already reading around 80 so when the temp goes up it goes off the scale and eventually goes right round and hits the fuel gauge needle. Does anyone know if this can be repaired or if I can get a replacement set of clocks.
The part number is 996 641 108 01 70C. Typ UK. VDO 110.008.722/012.
Thanks.

Robert!

I've only heard of this once before on the forum, but I don't know what the outcome was:

I would suspect the instrument cluster rather than the temperature sensor, but as I suggested in the above thread, a diagnostic check might throw up what is wrong, and the Porsche tester can operate the gauge independently to test it.

A used cluster might be your best bet, but you need to get exactly the same type (model year, transmission, coupe/cabrio, etc) and you will need to have the mileage corrected. A new cluster is over £2000+VAT, by the way...... []
