Hi have just joined the club and I have a 996 4s I want to upgrade the sounds to Bose is this a easy thing to do

Hi Simon & welcome to the club and 996 ownership, lots of members are now upgrading their sound systems, I'm sure
Richard our tech expert will be along when he sees this post, to advise you on the routes to take with regards to upgrading
to Bose, good luck and enjoy your C4S.

Welcome Simon!

What model year is your car? Check the 10th digit of the VIN. 2=2002, 3=2003, etc. Also, what stereo do you have, and does it have the 490 option amplifier? (Check the option code sticker under the front compartment lid, or in the maintenance book).

They changed the audio amplifier system from copper wired connections to fibre optic for MY2003. That, and the existing setup, will determine the best way forward.

Hi guys thanks for getting back it's a 2003 I have already got some Bose door speakers I have in the car at the moment looks like just a normal radio id no large screen. I will check the amp which I think is in the boot? If I get rear Bose speakers and a new amp will this be enough ? Thanks again

simon

If you don't have an amplifier at all, it will be very difficult to retrofit Bose. On cars which don't have an amplifier, the speakers are wired directly to the head unit. The head units are wired to have either the fibre optic outputs active (for amplified systems) or the speaker outputs active (non-amplified systems). A non-amplified head unit won't work with a Bose amp.

The head unit is probably a CDR-23 (which will be shown on the front of the radio). As I said, check the opion sticker to see if it shows 490 (the Harman amp). 680 would be Bose.

Thanks Richard it does have an amp haven't taken it out to look at yet will get pic of bonnet sticker and post can't see 490 or 680

regards simon

Mine is an option 490 CDR 23,but my front left speaker buzzes and doesnt work nor does the left and now my right front door speaker LF is popping. Jon Mitchel Porsche reckon its the amp, forgot to say AM reception is non existing at the moment,

I listen to talk radio on AM, subscribe to Spotify and have a big ipod/phone music library....but Ive not got a never ending budget...

What are my options for DAB, iphone/pod compatability, sat nav (maybe) either single or double din fitted for less than a grand??.

thanks
Scott

I've decided to change out the head unit replacing it with a Pioneer Double DIN with DAB, Bluetooth, etc

And the Amplifier with an Audison AP4 4 channel amp.

Door speakers may need to be replaced on investigation but the amp could be the main cause of the speaker problem.

Work being done by a really good specialist in Winchester called Accutek who recently did a great job on a 996 Turbo

Will post pics when installed..

Hi guys just joined today have a 996 C4S Cabriolet 2004 have a similar question, what is the best solution to get a bluetooth system added to my Bose system please. Keeping the pcm2.??

Symon!!

If you just want Bluetooth 'phone there are several aftermarket options which replace the PCM telephone module (under the driver's seat) and will give you a Bluetooth connection whilst retaining the telephone interface on the PCM unit. Google Tooki, ViseeO, Dension, and MoBridge, and you should get a good idea of what is available. I had a ViseeO in my first Cayman and it was great. They come up on eBay from time to time, so keep an eye on there.

Guys

i thought I'd found a fitter who gave me the best advice, but as always, after my own investigation it may not be the best money wise

As I drive all over the country, does anyone know of a good audio fitter that can advise on cd23 option 490 upgrade to double din?

Hampshire would be good but happy to travel
