996 THERMOSTAT

Just had the brake discs skimmed at O.C.D. Porsche in Birkenhead (Chris ) Excellent Porsche outlet.
Whilst on the ramp Chris commented that the original thermostat was still in place and as a bit of a help to let the engine warm up quicker there was now a replacement unit (I think about £75 + fitting ) which will obviously let the engine warm up quicker ( mine now does ). This mod will go just a little way to easing the IMS problem and scored bores.
 
The replacement thermostat is not for warming the engine up quicker. In fact it is just the opposite as it opens sooner, at lower temperature, to increase water flow around the engine during those vulnerable early seconds during increase engine loads. This can aid in the protection from bore scoring issues.
