I have just aquired a 2nd gen C2 Tip S and took it on its first long run today, I have noticed that when the box downshifts from 3rd to 2nd it sometimes does so with a very noticeable clunk, other times the downshift is seamless. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or indicative of a problem ? It only happens when the box is downshifting from 3rd to 2nd and not all of the time sometimes the downshift is as seamless as all of the other gear changes. Any advice/ideas would be welcome. The car is a 2003 with only 35K miles on it.

Occasionally I experience something similar, e.g. when decreasing the speed a bit "sharply" (say a stop-light surprises you on a 50 mph road, or similar) and it has to go down in gears quite quickly, but it is quite rare.
Someone suggested "90% of Tiptronic issues goes away if you change the gearbox oil...", which I haven't tried yet (3.6, 2002, 78K miles).
Would be interesting to hear other's experiences.
Rgrds,
Erik
