Hi. I'm at a track day at Donington this weekend and my friend is tracking his 996 Turbo for the first time. He has std set up and road tyres.

Can anyone suggest a good starting point for hot tyre temperatures? Forecast is for cool sunny day and as this is his first visit, may not be getting too much heat in them. Just wanted to know what to aim for.

Thanks

My general rule of thumb for road tyres on track is to keep them at factory pressures when hot, i find this the best compromise between handling and even wear.

Big word of advice is to used well calibrated tyre pressure gauge, as i had been using a Porsche one which i have since found out is way off the mark.

If there is a tyre supprt company on site, they should lend you theirs F.O.C.

Thanks Glenn. Will start with factory settings when hot.

Re tyre guage I found mine to be 1 psi under consistently and adjust when I take readings (checked against one I borrowed from a race team, said to be very accurate). Are there any guages you can recommend or that can be calibrated.

Thanks

Start off 36 hot all four as usual. May need to lower to 32-34 hot if the rear end gets a bit squirrelly.[:D]

But don't get bogged down by fiddling with the pressures -tell him to just drive!!

Perlease don't use factory sestting off 44 for the rear -T.P's go up 8-10psi after a session......

My Cup Car starts 23-24psi cold aiming for 32psi hot on slicks.
