996 Turbo Boost Values

Its probably nothing but I am a newby to the 996 turbo MY03 46,000 MLS so I'm not sure if this is a problem or not. The car is fantastic but when in second the car seems slightly flat on acceleration with boost from the OBC only showing .4 / .5 bar. Really pulls well in 3rd with boosts up to 1.1 bar, its probably a question for Richard but i'm wondering what other owners experiences are. It is an amazing car and I'm just loving the ownership [:D] Not the fuel bills[], averaging about 15 mpg for urban commuting. Any thoughts comments much appreciated.

If you are getting readings of 1.1 bar, the car has been chipped. Standard Turbos boost to 0.6 or 0.7 bar, and you should get that reading in 2nd and 3rd.

I suspect it might be something to do with the remap. Clearly it isn't the typical pressure hose leak or wastegate actuator if you are getting high boost in 3rd.

Hi Richard thanks for that, so sounds like not too much to worry about. Would this explain the 15 mpg? Or is that pretty typical.

Last but not least, can it be remapped back to standard?

Usually it doesn't make a huge difference to fuel consumption if you drive the car normally. My daily drive is across town and back, and I get 18-ish mpg, but bear in mind mine is a Tip, so a manual should be 1-2 mpg better.

Yes, it can be remapped back to standard, but you would lose performance of course. It can be done with the Porsche tester, as all the fuel maps are stored on the tester. You would need the security codes for your car, so it would be an OPC job, or a good indy should be able to get them from Porsche. Difficult to know what to advise really. It would be dreadful to have it remapped and be disappointed with the way it performed afterwards.

Thanks Richard, Performance certainly doesn't disappoint[:)], interesting that my MPG is significantly lower even when driving normally. It's certainly no where near 20[], as per OBC read out. I'm not sure how I would go about getting that looked into, your thoughts[8|]?

Sorry - I was quoting OBC readout on mine. I've never checked it against mileage/fill-up quantities. I'll have to do that and compare. It sounds like your consumption may be "normal". []

After filling up my OBC on the turbo typically reads 211 miles to next fill up, my previous C4S used to show about 240 miles. Obviously, if you go on a run it starts scaling up due to more steady state driving. I guess that's the price of the smile on a turbo[:)]
