996 Turbo drop links

Hi all,

Does anybody know the length of the standard drop links front and rear? I think my front ones are shot and thought I might as well get some better quality ones but need to know the length. I could measure tonight but thought I'd be lazy and ask here!

Cheers.

Well I checked tonight and the front is about 280mm long, difficult to measure accurately without removing it completely.

And my drop links are fine. I disconnected the right side and my creaking over small bumps is still there so I think it must be the lower wishbone.

Wish you better luck than I had. Have been there (previously reported here) with a C4 996 front end creak/clunk at slow speed on bumpy roads. Still present after sequential replacement of drop links, top mounts and then bottom arm. Told probably the strut now which will need replacement of both! All performs perfectly and always did - apart from the noise. No play or wear ever detected at any time at either service or MOT. Has been a most expensive 'non-solution'. For the moment am tolerating the noise.

FWIW, I have the same problem on my 2003 C4S. It's an irritating rattle/creak from somewhere on the front suspension which manifests itself mainly, as you say, on slow bumpy roads and, on my car, over speed humps. I don't know whether your car does it but the noise doesn't appear until the car is thoroughly warmed up. My car has been back to RPM Technik 3 times and they have changed the drop links and checked all the suspension components but the noise is still there. It doesn't seem to affect the actual handling of the car so I've given up on it but it is bloody irritating

Although I probably didn't notice it initially, the noise is just about present from initial startup but without doubt becomes much more noticeable with use - very loud after an hour or so in the twisties. Give it a rest for half an hour or so and it all but disappears.
