Hi - This is my first post so apologies if I haven't posted in the right way or location, any tips welcome.
I am a member currently with a 996 targa 2002, however I am in the process of buying a 2003 996 Turbo with 28,000 miles from an official Porsche Centre. They have given me a copy of the ECU read out which they assure me shows all is well but not being technical I wonder if there is anyone who can confirm that? Thanks in advance

Number of Ignitions Range 1 5772 659.0 h
Number of Ignitions Range 2. 36. 29.2 h
Order type 996421
Operating hours Counter 723.8

Mark!

There should be a lot more information on the report than that, not least the vehicle mileage (in km). However:

The Range 1 ignitions show the total number ignitions there have been during the life of the car when it has hit the rev limiter, and the time of the last occurrence. Because there are 3 ignitions per revolution, this equates to 5772/3=1924 revolutions. The rev limiter on the 996T is 7000rpm +/-. Therefore, the time spent on the limiter was 1924/7000=0.27 minutes, or 16 seconds. Range 2 is when it has revved past the limiter, and can really only be achieved by a premature down-shift. At 36 ignitions, the time is minuscule. My thought would be that it has been driven spiritedly, but not abused.

The average speed over the life of the car is 28000/723=39.7mph. I normally reckon 30-35mph for an average, so I think it confirms my spiritedly theory.

In other words, yes, I think the PC are right in what they say. Purely out of interest, what kind of warranty are they offering? The normal Porsche warranty only covers cars up to 10 years old.

Thanks for you speedy reply. Reassuring to hear. it is having the Porsche 111 point check but the warranty is still under discussion - they cannot offer a Porsche Approved warranty but are checking that they can offer an independent warranty. if not they will fix anything for three months and "stand by" the car after that. Considering the age and mint condition that seems fair? The ECU was indeed more comprehensive, total mileage = 46116km. Many thanks for the information, takes a weight off my mind as I'm not at all technical.
