996 turbo fuel tank

HI
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY WHEN I PUT A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL IN MY 996 TURBO IT DOES NOT REGISTER ON THE GAUGE OR THE TRIP COMPUTER. I WAS RUNNING QUITE LOW ON FUEL SO I PUT £20 IN IT I WOULD HAVE PUT MORE IN BUT IT WAS SUPERMARKET SLUDGE. WHEN I SET OFF THE GAUGE HADN'T MOVED. PLEASE HELP.

All 4WD 996s have a saddle tank, and from about 1/4 tank rely on a calculated value for the fuel level gauge. Therefore, you need to add at least 19 litres (IIRC) for the gauge to register. I believe it explains it in the driver's handbook.
 
thanks richard that has put my mind at rest. i have just bought the car i thought there was something wrong with it
