996 turbo (noise)

Hi,

I have just brought a 996 T its done 40k miles and has full service history.
When the car idles I can hear a whirring noise as i sit inside, coming from the front more passenger side. If I was in an older car I would have said its the fuel pump.
Is this a normal noise for the car?
Any assistance would be much apreciated.

Many thanks

Martyn.

There are several fans and various pumps with the TT. Fuel return pump is the most likely one you can hear

More than likely one of the fans that support the front radiators. Mine does exactly the same. Sometimes there's quite a symphony of various fans and pumps. Nothing to be concerned about.

No noise at all, something not quite right however i would keep driving until it gets worse or packs up.
Sure its not the heater fan

Does it only do it when the car is hot?

If so it's more than likely a radiator fan that could be a bit noisier than the norm.

If it does it when cold then I'd see a doctor.

Most likely is the heater fan, as mentioned.
The air con fan is at the front on the left I believe.
There are also the fans on the radiators. There could be a leaf in one of the them, but you would only hear a noise when it is hot.

If the engine is not on, then I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the ignition on.
The other thing I can hear when I turn on the ignition, is the CD ROM for the sat nav.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is if one of the power seat controls is stuck, so the motor is running in the seat, but I doubt this one.

Hee hee hee
Serves you right, buyin' one o' them new fangled vehicles wiv all kinds of winkin' blinkin' hummin' fartin' add-on gizmo's.
Get a 993 turbo and forget your worries. Bulletproof and less to go wrong. Just light the blue touchpaper and gooooooooo.
