996 Turbo running issue.

Black Turbo 01

New member
Any advice please. Car has had new ECU as fitted by specialist. Driving back, said specialist hadn’t tightened the negative battery connection and the cable came off. When put back on the car won’t run, at all. Showing error codes as:

M 5.2.2 (OBD)Mode - . Error Message : 3, Static errors:.----- - . Error Message : -----.P0023 - . Error Message : Camshaft "B" timing (bank 2).P1146 - . Error Message : Unknown fault.P1156 - . Error Message : Unknown fault.
Any help would be greatfully received.
cheers!

The Turbo has DME M7.8, not M5.2.2, so if you have that option on your scanner I would re-run the scan and see what comes up.

P1146 and P1156 (for DME 7.8) are O2 sensor error messages. I doubt that these, or the P0023 camshaft sensor error, would stop it from starting, but you could try clearing the codes, and see if they come back.

Educating the driver........! Fuel gauge showed half full, tank was on vapours! Battery terminal cable popping off was just a side issue.
Two weeks in the naughty corner for me, wearing a cone shaped hat with a "D” on it??

You fell foul of the C4/Turbo "saddle" tank. When they go below about 1/4 tank, the level sensor stops reading, and the gauge reading is calculated from there down. If it is below that level and you disconnect the battery, it starts reading from the 1/4 tank level, when you may have much less than that in the tank. Adding 19 litres and more will bring the level back to where the level sensor can pick it up.
