996 turbo spoiler problem

turbs

New member
On my 996 turbo a fault has developed that once the spoiler has auto gone up it will not auto detract. The only time it will is when i stop the car and turn the engine off and then manually use the button, the dash board light does come on as a fault but i am unsure now as to the problem. It is also intermittent. If i put it up manually whilst stationary it will also not go down on the button without switch off.
Any ideas ??

It goes up and down (when not using the manual switch) based upon speed.
It would seem that it can detect when you have gone over the speed limit (75mph) but not when you have slowed down again (under 37mph).

At the risk of stating the obvious, it seems like it is electric, with some sensor not doing what it should.
The fact that it will go up and down (with some persuasion) shows the mechanism is OK.
Unless there is a wire obviously hanging off somewhere, then I think you will need to ask OPC (or independent) to have a look.

From a saftey perspective, the main issue is if it will not come up. Not going down does not adversely affect the stability.

There are several speed control wires from the loom, one is in the in the driver footwell where the relays are. I think one is pinl, and the other is gre. More info is available on the Renntech forum

My 996 turbo did this , RPM in Harrogate identified a dodgy micro switch in the boot lid ,no time to fix , and at a reasonable cost , not necessary to use opco for this one .

My problem is different - stuck up, won't go down. Fuses checked, relays pressed. Looks altogether too complex for its own good - a small hydraulic pump in the engine cover lid. Any thoughts?

The car has extended warranty but not clear whether it's covered.
