996 turbo tip vs manual

Hi guys

just looked at an 05 tiptronic in cobalt, mint car with low miles and full history

my only reservation is the tip box, never been a great fan but overall the car is great. Does the tip box make the car worth less than a manual ?

i would say on a 996TT prob worth less-on a 997TT prob similar price
 
Well i have decided to buy it

not had a 996 turbo before, but all you read suggests they are a good car and although they will continue to drop money i still feel they are good value.

It will be good to be a porsche owner again

I thoughth that I had replied before but my post seems to have vanished!.

I had a 996C4S Tip (Turbo type body) and loved it. Much prettier than the 997 Turbo Tip I bought last year! Tiptronic while not for everyone is really good and virtually unbreakable. Shame the new DSG gearbox is not tough enough yet to go on the Gen 2 Turbo but Tip is faster than current manual anyway.

I am sure that you will not regret the Tip, even on track days I have found it ideal. To be honest my 964 clutch packed up after 30,000 miles and had never been near a track. ( Only burnt out one clutch before in many years of motoring and that was on a Mazda RX7 Elford Turbo where quite frankly the car was beefed up for the Turbo but the clutch was standard). The C4S had several track days and the Tip gave no problems whatsoever at that mileage and I believe it is still going strong.

Tiptronic is hard to beat for an everyday car
 
I've had both versions of transmission and felt the tip was really well suited to the Turbo, the masses of torque just allowed it to run...[8D]
The gearbox was quick to understand your driving style and changed its pattern to suit- plus you still have the manual mode to play with.
It is a clever box more than the journalists ever gave it credit for, never changing in bends is a great feature.
The more you drive a tip the more you enjoy and understand it.

Absolutely!

It is ashame that many people think that Tip is a soft optin when most cars are going "electronically auto" one way or another!

I really enjoy a long straight on a track anfd allowing the Tip to change up exactly at he right moment with no risk of over revving or hitting the limiter. Plus it achieves a far faster and smoother change than I can on a manual and if I try to change down at too high revs the Tip just says "non!"

I haven't tried the PDK but once the "paddles" are sorted and it is uprated I think that it must e a no brainer for the Turbo.
 
I personally prefer the tactility of Manual, but am interested in the new PDK even though I think I'm pretty good at heel and toeing etc etc.

It could be fab on the new Cayman CS !
