996 Turbo - tiptronic or manual

Hi Guys

I'm after a bit of advice. I want to change my 996 C4 Tip for a 996 Turbo, but I'm wondering should I go for manual or tiptronic again?

Any advice regarding driveabilty, resale values etc would be appreciated. I realise this is a personal preference thing, but I would be glad to hear others opinions.

My thoughts before buying my 996Turbo Tip were -
The tip box suits the Turbo far better than the NA 996. It depends which box you prefer obviously but the tip is a bit faster if you know how to drive it, is less likely to suffer from over revs and is probably better for modifying performance from somebody like 9excellence. The manual is more engaging as a drivers car so long as you don't do a lot of motorway or London driving. In the end I just looked for the best car and that happened to be a tip.

This is the typical question most potential Turbo owners ask, including myself.

I went for manual as I drive autos for my everyday cars and wanted something different for my "special" car. The manual ticked all the boxes for me, more involving, more connected to the car and feels like I am driving a Porsche rather than my normal car(s). I love my manual Turbo.

My cousin has a similar Turbo to mine except his is a Tip. He loves the Tip as it felt more advanced to his previous 915 gearboxed 3.2 Targa and different to his everyday car which is a manual Focus ST.

At the end of the day, it is down to personal preference so no one can really answer this question for you.

First thing to mention Is the tip is 5 speed and £2-3k cheaper, therefore higher geared, if you start having a sporting moment the car adapts and therefore stays in gear longer post your sporting moment, I found myself having to override the gear it was in. If your not used to the sheer extra speed of a turbo the tip is safer as you, don't have to worry about changing gear when your holding on for dear life.
The manual is more involving and you need to check for the 2nd gear pop out issue and for clutch wear with the tip gear changing should be so smooth with no clunking and you should hardly notice the change in gears.
If your not bothered either way go for a the condition and history of the car.
