996 Turbo Upgrades

Ok I'm assuming, since I've heard nothing, that my car hasn't sold so I'm now seriously planning to have the car back. However if/when I do there are a few things I didn't like about the car that I would like to address.

These problems are:

1. The standard gearchange feels a bit vague/plastic compared to Porsches of old.
2. The natural tendancy to understeer (even though the 4wd system feels perfectly RWD biased).
3. The engine is superb but I had grown too used to the acceleration and longed for a more furious delivery on boost.

Solutions:

Looking around I have found a company called deisgn tec who's products I like the look of. They seem to approach things the right way and it looks like there has been some engineering thought put into thier products. Does anyone have any expereince with them?

Gear change:- I would like to get a suitable short shift kit to make it feel a bit tighter.

Power:- Re-map, DV valves, I'm 50/50 on an exhaust (+ possibly their standard replacement filter box cover) I'm aiming for 500lb/ft torque.

Handling: A trip to centre gravity will be the main event but are there any part tweaks people would particularly recommend? I see things like wheel spacers, thicker ARB's etc being mentioned. What really works to elliminate understeer?

P.s. I found these guys from their recommended suppliers list (prices seem good):

The 997 SSK is said to improve the gearchange.
My 996T has been to CG a couple of times. Chris has adjusted the geo to minimise the understeer, and I have fitted 7mm spacers. One thing I'd like to do is to change the ARB's. The GT2 versions are one option.

Ben,
1. Short shift - good plan
2. I would see how close to your "ideal" set up Chris can get it before added any extras - and he may well be the best guy to recommend what to add in any case
3. DMS will give you the torques you need!

By the way, are you still down Plymouth way?

I heard dms are somewhat optimistic with their performance figures? 997 short shift sounds the way to go.

I'm still in plymouth at the moment but only till the weekend.

For mapping, you won't get much better than Wayne Schofield at Chip Wizards. He does live mapping on a rolling road, and it will be a bespoke map for your car, not a generic one.
