996 Type Spare Wheel

I've had 2 944's that came as standard with non-collapsible spares. A Lux and a "S". I think it was the later cars (S2, and perhaps Turbo) that had collapsible ones.

However I'm not sure the 996/Boxster wheels are suitable as the wheel nuts are bolts instead - I don't know if they are ok or not with they way they seat, but this may be something that would perhaps need to be checked?

Im considering using the 996 type as a replacement Mark. I was hoping that someone else with access to a 996/986 had had a similar idea. On the downside I will need a 924S load deck carpet, but on the plus side I will have a spare that I can rely on.

Mine appeared to be perfect when test inflated, but it cracked after a day when I came to use it.

I've got a non-collapsible spare on a very light aluminium rim. I was told they were quite rare and from the later 944s.

Nice try - have you seen the weather, I'm not going to the garage!

Will post it up tomorrow ;)

I've had an unused 996 turbo 16'' collapsible spare in the basement for a year and keep forgetting to offer it up to see if it fits OK. One day I will however I am a touch loathed to pump up the tyre as they never go back into their folded state as well again afterwards

As for bolts v's nuts question. Doesn't matter as long as its the half round version of either.

Its the non colapsible type that interests me Steve, although thatd help if the wheel itself is similar. I think that it may be wise to inflate the tyre partially and increase the pressure over a few days. I suspect that this would have saved my apperently perfect 951 spare had I had the foresight to do it...

Oops - totally forgot to do this today, sorry Simon.

Will post a pic and part number in the morning.

This is the wheel I have that I purchased from a friend:

I've got a horrible feeling it won't fit over my front brakes though so I should probably check that. I carry 2 tons of tyreweld anyway but my breakdown cover insists I have a spare for European travel.

Time to clear a couple of things up:

1: the 15" lightweight alloy spare wheel fits over M030 brakes no problem - it's all good.

2: I do not carry "2 tons of tyreweld" but I do most of my posting via my iPhone which obviously mistook tins as tons!
