Hi,

just found out I have a nail in rear tyre and it will need replacing, I want to replace both rears and have had contis sports n2 now for last 3 sets. I was thinking of changing to dunlop sp sport 9090 as this looks like a replacement according to the tyre stats on here. Front will remain contis until I wear them down a bit more. Any thoughts on these tyres?

thanks

Michelin PS2's for me every time but thats just my opinion.

Replaced Conti all round for these all round and car feels much better and more planted especially in the wet (which is all the feckin' time at the moment!!!)

Cheapest I can find contis is 200 quid each fitted. Luckily a guy in the office just told me he can get them at cost so 180.95 fitted. Anyone want any tyre quotes ask me .

Are Continental still providing tyres to Porsche. I was pricing tyres in last couple of days and OPC indicated that they no longer were.

So what do people believe to be the most appropriate brand on the market?

Mike,

There appears to be two clear front runners that seem to crop up in many tyre threads on this and other forums;

Pirelli's or Michelin's.

My impression from those various discussions is that Michelin's seem to shade it in terms of preference especially when it comes to road noise!

Last week I searched the internet and phoned around for price on Michelin PS2's rear 265.35.18 then I thought what the heck phoned Kwik Fit and they matched my best price and had them in-stock, fitted same day £400 for 2, valve, balance, disposal.
There internet price was about £580 I think!

On actual sizes, is the recommendation for 18":
F 225 x 40
R 265 x 35
(I'll be using BBS Sport Contact IIs)

That's the approved size for 18" (7.5"F and 10"R) rims fitted to pre-facelift cars. Facelift cars with 18" have 8" wide fronts. Quite a few people fit 285's to the rear of pre-facelifts, mainly for better rim protection, but it doesn't seem to upset the balance. Here are the approved tyres from the 2008 list, which comes from the Members Only 996 Technical Article forum:

To agree with Mike - I have Pirelli Asimmetrico's on my C4S and they are very noisy, honestly. Smaller Pilot's on a previous Boxster were much quieter (some of that wil be size of course).
Best

+2 and i've had both. michelins every time for me now

+3, but don't confuse Assimetrico N3s and Rosso N4s. In my experience the Rossos are as quiet as the Michelins and run a very close second IMHO.
