996 v 993 T

Would I be mad to swap my 2002 C4 with 11000 miles for a 1998 993 TT with 12000 miles in Speed Yellow.

Which will hold its value better?

We have a diesel Espace and a Golf 1.6 also.

Depends what you want to achieve.

IMHO:

Both will depreciate for the time being, (996 a bit more than 993T) but hopefully not too horrendously.

The 993T was highly regarded in its time, but will feel more 'brutish' than your 3.6 C4.

An older 993T may cost more to run than your C4

If a purer driving experience is your objective, and in view of your other cars, a 993RS or GT3 Mk1, would be better options (and should hold their values better).

What Oliver says is spot on. The 996 was an advance on the 993, and the 993tt is bettered by the 996tt . So my slant on this is , if you like the everyday useability of the 996 and you want a bit more pep then you need to seriously consider spending more to get a 996tt , going 993tt is retrograde.
Now if what you really want is red blooded hard core rear engined grunt, and you indulge in track days which are one of the few legal outlets for indulging high performance hardware , then the GT3 and the 993RS do come into play.
Its a split personality thing, I managed to solve it by getting a brace of Porsche...an early 996C2 with tiptronic and electric everything for daily driving , and a late lhd 964RS for the 'real deal'.....you know.... a proper aircooled engine , lots of noise and road shock and nothing wimpish like PSM, PCM, ESR, electric heated seats , satnav , aircon.....about a £60k package for the 2 so similar value to either a GT3 or a rhd 993RS, and not much more money tied up than your current car. bottom line, no I wouldnt swap a 2yr old current model for a 6 yr old outdated model...(ducks below parapet)

This is helpful thanks.

I also mentioned this to a friend - when he heard the 993 TT was Speed Yellow, his reaction was "no,no,no!"

Like the idea of a 964 RS. Couldn't justify two Porsches. Maybe a 964 RS and a Mini Cooper S works for everyday?
