Has anyone had the windscreen replaced on their 996 in the Glasgow Area?

I would be grateful for any advice before I have a conversation with my insurer Admiral. i.e. is there anyone that I should request to carry out the work? Do OPC Glasgow sub the work out? anyone I should avoid, things to be aware of etc.

All advice gratefully received...

Thanks
Billy

Just came across your post I have a 987 Boxster and a couple of years ago had to have a screen replaced not sure which company Auto Glass or the other national one name escapes me The screens these companies use are not Porsche ones so be warned if this does not bother you that's fine .As my car was 3 years old and insisted a Porsche approved one was used i had to fight hard they eventually agreed and it was ordered through Glasgow OPC i checked that they had indeed ordered in through the dealer .It was fitted at my house /garage took 3 hours to do ask for a fitter who has done Porsches before was happy with the job and only paid the £75 excess .Hope this helps

I'm also with Admiral and just had a screen replaced through them. Down here they used National Windscreen.

After all the horror stories about creaking screens I was a little nervous but ultimately they did a good job; mind you the first screen they dropped in the depot and the 2nd screen had the wrong electric connectors so it took 3 appointments before it got sorted! For some reason 996's have about 5 different detailed screen configurations so just make certain they check the configuration before fitting.

I would add a couple of points from my experience of having screens replaced on two Porsches, both by OPC recommended firms.

First, ensure they refit all wires they have to disconnect, including the GPS sensor for the navigation system - it is quite confusing when the system forgets where you are.

Secondly, the adhesive is apparently allowed to cure under compression in the factory and 'my' fitters used tape over a solid cardboard tube to apply pressure to the top two corners of the screen which were left on for 24 hours.

Thanks all for the advice.

I have arranged with my local bodyshop (who I know and trust) to have the National Windscreens guys carry out the work there. Asked for oem screen with green graduated tint (opt code 567) and no quibbling. V painless so far... Will post back the results.

Thanks again
Billy
