996 write-up on PistonHeads

Hi Guys,
I apologise if linking to other sites is bad juju, but after seeing a few of his highly enjoyable write-ups on various expensive Porsche 911s, I asked self-employed journalist "cmoose" if he'd like to compare my lowly 996 with those hallowed (over-priced?) models. It was a great day out and I hope you guys enjoy it:

Driving EGTE's 996.2 Carrera 2

Nothing we didn't know already, right?

Cheers,
Russ

That was great - objective - personally I think he'd have had a better time in a 3.4, just sayin'..... :ROFLMAO:

Great piece and one in the face for all the so called internet experts and 996 critics, which confirms what an excellent value sports and grand tourer our cars are! [:)]

Great write up & accurately captures the superb handling characteristics of these cars. I had the opportunity to more fully explore my 996 Targa's capabilities at Donington Park a couple of weeks go at a BMW car club track day. I had recently had a front suspension refresh & full 4 wheel geo alignment & was running on nearly new Continental tyres in very wet conditions.
The car more than held its own in the wet with some much more powerful machinery. The traction out of the corners even when very wet was far better than I'd ever expected at speeds I wouldn't obviously attempt on public roads.

These are fantastic cars for the £!

Any good publicity for the 996 is great to hear. I bought my 996 12 years ago and remember doing the deal on the car and at the time not being one to go on the Internet and look at write ups on cars I just asked some club members there thoughts and all said good cars, just buy a good one which was what I had in mind. Then suddenly there was lots of talk about RMS and engine failure which sent me into a panic as I spent over 30k on this car. I then just got on with it and enjoyed the car which I am still doing. I've driven a lot of other cars most more modern, but love my 996 with m030 suspension and sports exhaust, its a great set up to drive with a lot of really good feed back. I popped into a Well known specialist the other day and he mentioned that the 996s are getting some good intrest again, prices help but people liking the narrow body look, as everything is becoming so fat these days.

So so nice to read this report, and here is to many more.

Cheers Phil

I bought a 996 carrera 2 tiptonic s 3.6 2003 about a month ago and every time I get into it I have a smile on my face like a Cheshire Cat !!!!! It's my first Porsche and I just love it , im no expert but to me it's a thing of beauty for the money ;-)))))
