Hi, I've just fitted a cd3 cd changer to my 996 but the pcm2 head unit doesn't recognise it. Is there any way of configuring the head unit to recognise the new component, or do I have to take it to the dealers to go on their computer? I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't find it on the forum. Thanks for any help

PCM2 uses a CDC-4 changer, not a CDC-3. It has the fibre optic connections. Once fitted, the system needs to be coded to add the CDC function.
Then I don't think you have PCM2. It must be PCM1 if it uses a CDC-3. Does your PCM have a cassette slot at the top? If so, definitely PCM1.
If it is PCM1, then I don't think it will need coding. Were the cables for the CDC already in the front boot? If so, did you plug them in at the PCM unit?

It has a cd slot above the screen and the instruction manual with the car says pcm2. I've taken the head unit out and checked the wiring plugs are all in place. I rang the opc this afternoon and they said it should have a cdc4 with optical connectors, but my connectors are totally different to the cdc4, so i'm totally perplexed
Yes, it is PCM2 then. On the CDC4 you should see a rectangular socket with two lenses at the base of the socket. They are the fibre optic connections, and you have to buy a fibre optic loop to connect them in the optical circuit. There should also be a power connection to the CDC4.
If you drop me an email, I'll send you the fitting instructions, which explains what you need to do, and part numbers, etc.
