996tt Engine stutter

Guest

New member
Apologies now if someone else has already asked this question, but I am new to the forum and the search engine on this site is as about much use as a box of matches to a scuba diver!

My 996tt (2002) has started to stutter (hesitate) intermittently when cruising at a constant speed....anywhere between 30 to 75 mph. Any ideas as to what the cause might be?

Thanks!

Could well be the MAF Craig - common fault from what I read.

May need cleaning or replacing.

Do a search on pistonheads and rennlist and here - lots of people suffered from misfire before.

ha ha just noticed your search comment - try ph and rennlist.

Mine did that on bad fuel , ? put in 2 fresh tanks of Optimax and a can of octane booster with fuel cleaner presto all was Ok 996TT 2003 car

Mine does exactly that at about 3,000 RPM. I mentioned it to my local OPC and they said it was something common amongst all turbos - something to do with the engine management deciding whether it should "stay or go"...i.e. it is between programmes. It seemed to make sense to me at the time and since then I have been able to resolve the problem by giving the engine a helping hand (or foot).

I don't have a 996tt/997tt but from what I hear the factory software can be much improved by an aftermarket system. Giac is meant to be very good and cleans/sharpens things up.

There is also a thread about DMS on here.
