As I expected (and as mentioned before) the 996TT pages have gone from the Porsche UK website sometime this afternoon.
The GT2 and GT3, now the turbo.
Oh well, that's progress for you.

We just have to wait for the new pages to appear.
The king is dead, long live the king. Or something like that.

I guess this means the 996TT is now officially a piece of history.
At least I own a piece of it - and what a piece.
Congrats to fellow owners, and good luck to prospectives owners - you'll have to ask loads of stupid questions now, since the official source of info is gone.

Not 100% sure I like the look of the 997TT, it looks very similar to the 996 from some angles & a little more gawky from the front in the photo's I have seen, having said this no doubt it will be stunning in the flesh.

I keep thinking about putting my name on the list for one, then I remember that from brand new a 996TT looses about £45k-50k over 4 years, ouch. I know that is low depreciation for a high end sports car, but as much as I love cars it does hurt to keep loosing dosh, when I love it so much!!!

Mine is coming up to 4 years old (had it for 2 years) & its lost 45% of its new value, which I consider not bad at all for a supercar.
remember that Porsche are only bringing in very limited numbers ( I heard that only a couple per dealer will be available initially) so that will help residual values no end.
Part of the "problem" with the 996 (& they didn't learn with the 997) was far too many were produced which kicked the residuals in the nuts.
Currently, in glasses guide, a 997 C2 S is losing £850 a month. The dealers seemed stuffed with them - I have a dealer willing to "do a deal" on one for me but I am not interested at the moment.
I have a build slot for a 997TT for delivery in the Spring, so one of the first in the country, but looking at the pictures I am seriously considering canceling it.

I was thinking the 997TT would grow on me, but I keep looking at it and thinking it is too fussy. I think the 996 looks better.
Form is supposed to follow function and it looks like the stylists have had the upper hand.

I will see how we can find out how many 996TT's were sold in the UK.

As for the 997TT, I was told by my OPC they have 2 years worth of letters of intent, although they suspect many of these will not turn into real orders. We'll see what happens a few months after launch and the initial rush of the speculators dies down.

I mentioned to the sales guys that the problem for them was the cost of changing the car. If the current ones depreciated more, then fewer people would be keen to fund a large replacement cost.
It is also an issue for the manufacturers in general to make the new cars sufficiently better to tempt people out of the current ones. I think part of the problem is how good the 996 is.
It is interesting to see how many people are happy to keep their (non-turbo) 996s.
