Hi there, as a fairly new owner of my first 997, I've spent quit a bit of time, going over the car and just making her as perfect as she can be for her age. You know what I'm talking about, cleaning behind the rear lights, replacing any broken trim or cable clips, the essentials The other week, I managed to get the car over a pit and make a start on the underside and as I removed the centre plastic tray I found a very small amount of oil seeping from the drive shaft (looked like the oil seal on the drive shaft was giving up). The only thing was there was not much on the plastic cover or over the gearbox and it was coming out when the car had been parked for a good 30 minutes. Well cut cut a long story short, after removing the gearbox fill plug and getting covered in several litres of gearbox oil, I concluded that someone had overfilled it by using the top plug. Nice work by someone unknown to me, as it's not marked in the service book as it's not due yet, but can't imagine its been like this since new. Also the oil which came out smells like gearbox oil, but was so thin no way it's 75W90, its almost like engine oil.
So getting to the point of the post, should I go genuine Porsche oil (00004330549) or is there some better alternative such as Motul Gear 300 75W-90?
