997.1 Gear Shifting

My 2006 model 997.1 gear shift is a bit stiff when engaging 1st and 2nd, more so when cold. Its not so bad that I have a problem when driving, its just that I would like it to shift more smoothly.

I have the required jig / tool (see photo) to help adjust the gear change linkage correctly plus a YouTube video on how to do it, see link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etqu_6y6x_g.
However, after watching the video, I ask myself if I can do this without breaking trim parts and losing screws etc - Doubtful?

In another YouTube video by the same person I saw a recommendation to change the gear oil to Mobile 1 Mobile PTX 75W-90.
The claim was that this is the definitive gear oil for Porsches and improves gear shifts but he also stated that Mobil sponsored the video!

My question is: has anyone tried this and, if so, how did it work out?

My local PC has quoted me £180 to investigate the stiff gear shift plus whatever work needs to be done to fix it. That indicates to me around £700 bill inc VAT. For that, I can live with the gear shift as is.

Thank you for any comments

Almost all 997s have a stiff shift between 1st and 2nd when cold, but do you know if your car has a Short Shift kit fitted? This would make it feel like a stiff shift more often, as it's a known feature of the kit.
If it's not fitted, you may need to think about a transmission oil service. It's not necessarily considered an essential to do, but it is prudent given the age of these cars now.
