997.1 Turbo tyres

Hi All,

Hope you had a lovely Christmas,

I've had some comedy bad luck with tyres since buying my turbo, both rears with punctures (a key and a huge nail) [] .. I've stuck with the Pzero Rosso's the car came with but wondered if anyone else had comments on which tyres are best for the turbo. I replaced all 4 tyres on my 2005 C2S with PS2's and loved these... The little red Pzero labelling on the Rosso's is kinda cool though [:D] matches my red seat belts.

I've read on a few forums that the Rosso's aren't particularly well regarded in terms of feel, wear etc.

Votes for the best turbo tyre would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Iain.

Likewise would love to hears views from anyone who has compared Bridgestone RE050 to PS2 to PZero.

I'm on RE050 and don't particularly rate them, but would value a view on where they sit in the preferred 'pecking order' if you've been lucky/unlucky/flush enough to have compared.

Would love PSS but still not N-rated...

Michelin Super Sport are perhaps the perceived best performers but are not 'N' rated and this may pose a problem if you have Porsche Extended Warranty. Otherwise it's Sport if you want Michelin.

I use Bridgestone Potenza RE050 on my Gen 2 Turbo 'S' and rate them very highly. I had Continental on a previous Gen 1 turbo and these seemed to suit the car very well. Both were OEM. Much depends on your driving style and what you prefer from the tyre e.g., performance, wet weather handling, high mileage etc.

Regards,

Clive.

I had Bridgestones on my Gen1 and I really enjoyed them.
They possibly had more road noise than others and not the best in the wet, however it was a solid tyre that gave wonderful feel through to the wheel.
They have a studier side wall that gave them their characteristics.. I had the chance to swap but was more than happy to stick with them.

They also had quite a reasonable side wall protector that with Gen1 diamond cut wheels was a savour...[;)]

I know you're looking for real world opinion so this doesn't answer your question but might be of interest as background reference.

Note how they are weighting different aspects at the bottom of the page, so I wouldn't say the order reflects which is best overall.

Oh actually they've got loads of tests. Pick the test for the tyre you want to win[:D]

Yes this is indeed the issue.

Also, the predominance of FWD test cars is many of the tests isn't probably helpful.

Would love to find a 997 N-rated back to back comparison!

Replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s with Bridgestone RE050A; not much difference noticed, but I think less road noise. I think that having the side wall protector is an important factor.

Seems Bridgestone's are quite well regarded, had a look on the Porsche used website and quite a few wearing those...

I wonder if the sometimes complete lack of stock puts people off the Pirelli's.. matching N numbers for a single tyre can be a nightmare....

I did think the PS2's filled the gap between the tyre and the car more though, can't help think the Pzeros look a little smaller from the side profile.

More examples of peoples choices would be greatly appreciated.

There has been shortages on the Bridgestones too over the year [&:]
Mine came with them fitted as standard, I enjoyed the characteristics of the tyre and stuck with it..

Don't think there's a problem now though Gary. My favourite supplier is doing a full set for just over £800[:)]

That's a fair price Alan, it used to be nearer £1k when I last did the complete car...[:)]
