I assume that you’re referring to the direct fuel injection engine introduced in the Gen2 997 Carrera and 987 Boxster and Cayman?
The IMS was deleted on the revised engine, both cam banks being driven directly from the nose of the crankshaft.
Alusil replaced the Lokasil process for the cylinder blocks, and bore scoring issues are not considered to be a significant problem on the later engines, although that’s not to say that it hasn’t occurred … maybe on higher mileage engines?
Oil scavenging from the heads was improved (4-ports rather than 2) and a DME-controlled oil pump was introduced which regulated oil supply on demand.
A DFI engine achilles heel is the high pressure fuel pump, but other than that it appears to be a relatively trouble-free engine.
