[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Hi, this is my first post on the Forum, got the 997 bug bad, bought my first 997.1 C4s with aerokit & sports exhaust in 2014 loved it, upgraded to a 997.2 C4s 2015, can't believe the massive difference between a Gen 1 & Gen 2 however the Gen 2 has no sport exhaust though & its too quiet for my liking.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
[FONT=verdana, geneva"]would like to get a switchable system fitted as I'm a track day fan and some circuits have noise restrictions.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Any recommendations would be welcome[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Would just also like to say I'm actually a club member & not just a guest, I have asked club HQ if they can fix this

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the club!

I have a gen 1 C4S with the sports exhaust which I love. I'd be very interested to hear about the benefits of gen 2 ownership - perhaps I need to upgrade also!

Loved my Gen1, changed it due to the mileage getting on the high side.
The Gen 1 is a rawer car to drive, which I quite liked as it felt more connected to the road, the Gen 2 is more refined & would be more comfortable to do distances in. The Gen 2 is just as capable but just a little less involving, My Gen 2 has a PDK box (I changed the steering wheel from buttons to paddles) which makes it lightning quick through the gears and it's like driving a video game through the twisties. Biggest upside is getting rid of that impending IMS bearing thought out of the back of your mind too.

I have fitted K & N air filter, which is a no brainier, extra 3-4 HP for next to nothing, plus added 15mm spacers to the rear wheels as they weren't filling the arches, once I get the exhaust sorted I'll be a happy chappy

Hi all, congrats and welcome to you "McMurray" on your recent GenII purchase. I've just recently acquired a 2010 Gen II C4S PDK and have the PSE amongst many other options. Aside from some initial delivery issues covered on another thread, I'm absolutely chuffed to bits with mine now, but I have to say although I'm pleased with the sound of mine in normal mode, I don't actually notice that much difference when driving, slightly when idle! when I push the button to open the valves. After some reading I think there are quite a few parameters built into the exhaust over when the noise really screams, happy to be corrected, anyone any good gen on the PSE logic?

P.S Does anyone know if you change the air filter would affect the official Porsche Warranty? I'm pretty sure that would be my only reason for it being a no brainer, I suppose.

I think you will need to speak to your Porsche Centre to find out if it will pass the 111 point check with a non-standard filter as the strict wording of the warranty insurance policy prevents fitting any non Porsche parts.
Regards,
Clive.

Thanks Lancerlot, I'll have a chat with them next week, but pretty sure I know what the answer will be!

You could always keep the old one and refit it as and when!!! [8|]
That's not official PCGB advice BTW. []
Regards,
Clive.

Hi McMurray and welcome.
I test-drove a Gen II with PSE and couldn't hear any difference, even over 4000RPM.
Judging by what I've read on this and other forums, the Gen II PSE is a bit of a non-event compared to the Gen 1's.
So, if it's drama you're after, look to a 3rd-party supplier - I hear good things about SharkWerks - but don't waste monies on the Genuine Porsche item without testing one thoroughly with another member.
Good luck.

Hi Steve , Ive had my C4S Gen 2 2009 for 3 years now , I totally know what you mean in regard to exhaust, the first thing I done was to remove the rear muffler to put on a Sharkwerks by pass , it is a big difference, you start to hear the more open sound , but I then decided to go the whole hog and fit the PSE as well , so I have best of both worlds. I fitted the Sharkwerks and PSE myself ,it is controlled with a Carnewal radio switch, the PSE took about two days of adventure. I then went on to do an Evomsit map , air filters , IPD plenum, so it really is the machine I wanted now, its a real keeper. Recommend the Sharkwerks plus PSE. Takes real dedication to do it DIY but I learned a lot about the car and how to work on it, would recommended DIY only if you are pretty proficient with tools.

All the best

Martin
