997.2 Oil Pressure

Evening all - my first post
Whilst out for a wiz in my 2010 997.2 turbo (46,000 miles - Mobil 1 oil changed annually) I happened to notice that the oil pressure gauge needle was up and down like a fiddler's elbow! It was varying with revs and was never below being horizontal - is that 3bar? and went up to about 1 -2 o'clock (sorry to be so vague, but car is under it's cover now) Revs were from tickover to about 4500 - 5k. I've had this car for 21 months now and sadly I can't say that I've ever noticed this before. Looking at a couple of Pistonheads replies, it seems to be normal on n/a 997 engines, but I couldn't see anything specific to Turbo engines.
Anyone ever notice what oil pressure variation they get on theirs?
Cheers all

Oil is driven around the engine by the oil pump. The higher the revs, the higher the pressure. When warm expect 1.5bar at tick over and 4-5bar at full chat. When cold when the oil is thicker it will be at 3-5bar most of the time.
Now the curve ball ... Oil pressure senders fail ... A lot. When they do it will become erratic.

This is not strictly true for the Gen 2 engines as the oil pump is electric. The pressure varies according to the engine load and not necessarily rpm. Try it. From 2000 rpm and a steady speed look at the oil pressure. Then floor it. The oil pressure will shoot up in advance of the revs and reach 4-5 bar. What is seen by the OP is perfectly normal

Looking good then. It's just that on all other cars I've had (all without electric pumps) including my supercharged Westfield, the OP seems to be more or less constant when hot, only dropping down on tickover.

Taken from the 997.2 turbo brochure

Integrated dry-sump lubrication ensures a reliable supply of oil even when a sporty driving style is adopted. It also has
additional cooling functions. The oil tank is located in the engine, thereby eliminating the need for an external oil tank.
A total of seven oil pumps ensures the supply of oil. Six of those return the oil from the cylinder heads and exhaust gas
turbochargers directly to the oil sump where a seventh oil pump feeds oil directly to the lubrication points in the engine.
To reduce drive losses and increase efficiency, an electronic on-demand oil pump is used. This means that the oil pump
is operated at high power when there is high demand and at low power when there is low demand. The result
is an optimized oil supply appropriate to requirements, lower fuel consumption, and fewer emissions.

I remember about a year into ownership there was a software update, part of which increased the oil pressure noticeably when there was a "demand" above idle.

Hi tscaptainI think the above is from the big "workshop" hard backed brochure isn't it? I have this somewhere, and I remember reading of the 7 oil pumps, but obviously not the electric pump bit.
I'm assuming yours exhibits this phenomena, presumably?
