997.2 OPC Servicning

Hi everyone,

My 2009 997.2 needs a service in October. I recently bought the car and it came with a Porsche Extended Warranty until July 23. As a result I have planned to have the car serviced at an OPC. On line I saw that Porsche were offering fixed price servicing for the 997, which whilst not at Inde rates was not too painful, however both my local OPCs have told me that their "group" have opted out of this and now charge full rates, £650 instead of £405. Anyone know an OPC that hasn't opted out?

I am in Worcester. Porsche Solihull will drop their price if I can find a better quote. I realise it is not a huge difference but it is annoying.

It's worth checking with Porsche GB who is participating, it's rare for OPC's to be able to opt out .......unless it's an opt in scheme

Roger,

Going back quite a few years I recall that there was fixed price service menu in place to which many - but not all - Porsche Centres subscribed, but my impression is that has now fallen by the wayside and although I’m sure that Porsche sets the parts price, the individual dealers set their own labour rate and maybe oil prices, etc. I’m in North Beds and have three dealerships within range - Cambridge (Jardine), Hatfield (Porsche Retail Group) and Towcester (Sytner) - all of whose prices seem to vary, although Hatfield are always significantly more expensive than the other two.

I think your best bet is to negotiate with your chosen dealer(s) to get the best price.

Attached is, as Jeff says the `old` list of fixed price participating centres, unfortunately Porsche has since revoked it`s associated Total Transparency policy - not the exact words that Reading HQ used to me though  []

Porsche does `approve` several independents for servicing, under the Porsche Partner Network. In my experience of shopping around they source their parts from Reading and charge similar prices to that of the OPC`s, as said above ... they charge ~ £50 an hour less for labour

When I did the 996 a couple of years ago, Swindon were stopping the fixed prices. Reading were lots off of good independents and Swindon was lower. However, that has now stopped I believe. Also factor in fuel. How much further are you driving for a cheaper service, and, should you need anything rectified, how far is the journey back? My brake fluid change wasn't bled properly and had to get it sorted

Are you getting a courtesy car or waiting? Will the courtesy car defo be a Porsche if you are thinking of having fun in that for a day. Friend has a Taycan in atm, they've had it a week and the Mavan GTS he has is killing him on fuel now he's used to a daily EV ??

But, as above, I don't see 650 as unreasonable at an OPC if you want to keep the stamps. Are you keeping the car short to medium term?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies. It is apparent that the previous fixed price scheme has been largely dropped, however I am pleased to say that after a bit of phoning around I found that the Stratstone Group will still honour it so I am booked in with them in October. I did go back to my local OPC (Dick Lovett) but they told me they were not allowed to "price match". I think once my extended warranty expires I will be back with my (excellent) local Independent.

I had a similar experience in February when my 997.2 was due for it's "big" 10 year service. Difference in prices between my two nearest OPCs was approx £400. I was told my regular OPC, the nearest one, 3 miles away, had opted out of fixed price servicing, whilst the other, 90 miles away, still offered it. When I spoke to the service adviser and said I would be as well drive the 90 miles and save the money unless they could match the price, she spoke with the service manager and they reduced the price to (almost) that of the other OPC. It's worth shopping around and challenging........
