pick this up from another forum ,thought you mite like the info on this .
the chaps normal pretty accrete

Ok, this thread is about R8 V10. Just Artur777 requested some info about forthcoming 997.2 Turbo models(FL). There will be two models-997.2 Turbo with 500ps(manual and PDK) and little bit later 997.2 Turbo S model(530ps and PDK only). Both will have new engine based on 3614ccm current DFI Carrera engine. Just it will feature(hopefully) true dry sump, updated PTM(Porsche's AWD) and that famous PDK. It will be without any doubt better car then current 997 Turbo. Just, will it be better car overall then R8 V10?
IMHO if you want manual answer is NO. On the other hand if DCT like box is a must then 997.2 Turbo with PDK is better choice since I am not a fan of R Tronic.

R8 V10 will give you excellent design(that is MY opinion), truly excellent drive dynamics and engine that can be described as nuclear power plant(!)... My personal choice is R8 V10. Just for your info IMHO normal R8(V8) is as good as V10, just not as fast...

Facelift Turbo 'better', yes and no...

Yes - PDK is definitely better than Tiptronic, given. Also DFI will give you a few more MPG, especially with the new overdrive gear when crusing.

No - the facelift Turbo will lose it's indestructible GT1 engine, and replaced with a much cheaper Carrera one. So better from Porsche margin perspective, however still unproven from a customer point of view. And forget about seeing 700bhp Turbo's again as the engine won't be as overdesigned as the current one is so tuning will be very risky (plus PDK won't be able to handle any extra torque). Rumours on Porsche having sorted out the 997.1 Turbo handling problems from poor PTM/PASM configuration. However, the 997.1 Turbo was marketed as a 'masterpiece' by Porsche, and in it's standard factory guise this is far from the truth - so when they say they have sorted it I would take this with a large spoonful of salt. If Porsche were sensible they would fit the top of the range Bilstein dampeners (and not use the bottom of the range ones like they do now), lower the car to GT2 ride height, and fit the new Bilstein airlift system (link). Then everyone wins.

With regards to the R8 V10, at £120k this is going to be a hard sale. Not many people in these current economic times are going to want to spend £120k on an AUDI, as fine a car as I am sure it will be. Versus even the cheaper 997.2 Turbo, it's a no-brainer in my book.

997TT over 996TT was definitely a notable upgrade in terms of handling - the car was offering a unique AWD system, PASM, better brakes, as well as the Turbo GT engine. If rumours are true buying a PDK version with limited upgrade potential and few other benefits may cause some to think twice but I suspect the majority of Turbo purchases don't even consider this.
If it is the same engine block: what vehicle price for 2 turbochargers at the volumes they have historically knocked out this model - lower? [:D]

Looking forward to test driving the PDK version... Any traction on a launch date ?

Definitely won't be the same engine block. And Porsche definitely won't be passing across the £20k saving on engine costs!!

The facelift Turbo will be out at the end of 2009 summer (MY10 car).
