Hi, recently purchased my first Porsche after a string of M cars. With it being an older car i was concerned about corrosion so looked up potential weak spots. After a bit of research I saw that a few people had mentioned removing the rear arch liners as crud can accumulate there.
Removed the rear wheels and arch liners this weekend to find indeed, a large amount of sandy mud! Along with some small bubbles in the U shaped lip in the upper part of the arch where moisture has been allowed to sit.
After removing and cleaning up the dirt I found that it had unfortunately taken hold in some smallish areas but I believe its solid enough not to need any major work.
I've wire brushed the affected areas and treated with Kurust but unsure what to use to protect with before i refit the liners. My local car bits shop thought that silver Hammerite would be fine but then i've read that other owners think it'll crack and peel off.
There is also an area extending about 8cm from the rear jacking point along the sill seam that i'd intend to treat in the same way.
Any recommendations or if anyone has done the same job and has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried to upload some images but it says the file sizes are too large.
