Matt,

If anything like my 996 C4S, try removing the unit as per handbook, seperate it if it doesnt 'fall' apart & try removing then re inserting the individual bulbs.....

Mine had previously been 'repaired' with what resembled Prit Pads, bonded it back together with hot glue gun & now works fine[:)].....

Porsche wanted £125...

I do not have a 997 handbook and have been looking on the web to try and find guidance on how to remove without breaking it, where would i find such info? thanks

I'm afraid its busted and there aint no fixing it. Mine went exactly the same way, it starts off as an intermittent fault but gradually gets worse, the light dims and then it fails all together. If I remember rightly I think I paid about £40 from an indie for a replacement light and about 60 seconds to fit it. Porsche wanted over £100 to replace it. Mine lasted 5 years as well, can't complain at that though..

Ok thanks for the advise, is there a trick to removing the light I am afraid I am going to break something. I do not have a workshop manual for the car.

As the unit begins to fail either the voltage or the current changes which the car picks up and registers as a fault. It will start as an occasional fault but gradually get worse as the light dims. When you have the replacement unit try using something like a credit card to lift the outer edge away from the car it's a little fiddely but keep at it and the retaining clip will pop, the whole unit will need to be replaced so don't worry if any of the clips break. Disconnect the wiring and connect up the new unit, press firmly back into place until you feel the retaining clips click, and that is it..
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I have ordered a new part which should arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed it fixes the issue.
