Well, test drove the 4S today, and Im in love. That is the car Im going to go for.
Is it worth going for the porsche sports exhaust or fit a tubi??
Just listened to the tubi website, and it sounds absolutely superb. What kind of price are the Tubi's going for?
Sorry for all the questions, but I need to sort the exhaust, its important that my car sings like it should! ;)

If you are going New PSE is probably the way to go to maintian the warranty. Outside fo warranty fill your boots (whatever you prefer)

PSE with the power upgrade is very nice, the PSE sounds nicer by the day

Car wont be brand new, looking for an 06 model or similar.
Any clips anywhere of the PSE.

(looking on youtube in the meantime)

baptist,

Just be aware that the Tubi is very loud and will announce your arrival everywhere, fine for those high days and holidays but not so fine when all you want to do is fly around at 8 tenths unnoticed.

PSE is loud also ( I have it ), I'd stick with the standard exhaust and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Im set on a fruity exhaust, the car I drove was standard, and was too quiet for my liking.
Be interesting to see how the PSE sounds. After my 350z, nothing could sound loud!!!
Does anyone know the price on the tubi?
Im guessing 2-3k??

yves is bang on-tubi is BLOODY loud all the time(nice tho!)and is about2-2.5k.
pse is all you want really i suspect as it gives the option ofgoing slightly quieter!at times the tubi can be just too noisy for comfort IMHO

I have the PSE on my C4S, there is a very simple tweak you can make to ensure it is always on. If you don't know, the PSE when switched on still disengages at 20-40mph. I have disconnected the switch on mine so it is on 100% of the time. This is a 10 second tweak very common on PSE cars and it means the car is alot louder around town with the PSE - sounds like what you want. I have a Caterham and that is incredibly loud but the PSE on full tilt is not bad really. I'm sure the Tubi will be louder maybe but the PSE is plenty enough for me and I like a very loud exhaust in most cases.

From the perspective of keeping the car 100% Porsche and not messing with insurance or warranty, PSE is very good. You might well find it quite hard to find that many C4S cars of 06 vintage that lack PSE as it's a common option to choose. A standard exhaust car I would change the exhaust and look at the Tubi maybe. A PSE car certainly doesn't need to be chnaged for a Tubi.

What other options are you looking for ? Given your posts so far, I would say the short shift and adaptive sports seats must be up there ?

I had a C4S with X51 and PSE....You definately want the PSE, and I wouldnt bother with the 'always on' mod either that way you have a choice to use the sport button to have it quieter or louder. That car was easily the best sounding Porsche I have had, beautiful sound ( until I got the GT3 of course but thats another story ).
The PSE is not just about volume, its the sound & timbre also, I wouldnt have another carrera without it fitted, loved it.

I agree with Chris and Rob

4.5k miles in and the PSE sounds lovelly and getting better by the mile. If you have the sport chrono option it allows ou to turn it on or off. I tend to trun it off for long motorway drones in deference to any passengers but other than that its always on.

dyllan,

Tubi mufflers for the 997 are actually well priced, I paid about £1400 fitted for mine. If you added headers as well, then yes £2.5k +

I found that I could live quite happily with the Tubi's just pootling about, no noisier than PSE, but everybody knew about it when you were not which is not desirable at times !

baptist - before you make the jump into a 4S - just wanted you to hear from a 996 turbo owner as I've seen from a previous thread that was your other option. I've driven 997's and yes they certainly handle and ride extremely well but I just can't face giving up the shove of the turbo. Plus I prefer the more aggressive 'bad boy' looks and dare I say it exclusivity of the turbo cars. I find the 997 in standard guise especially from the rear just a little too mature and 'old man' for my liking. People have questioned the interior of the 996 but I actually prefer the more flowing and less angular looks. Also and I could be very wrong here but I feel the quality of leather etc. and the way the thing is put together is better in the turbo's than in the carrera's, well it is in my experience anyway compared to my last cars. I've convinced myself that as the turbo is the ultimate top of the range 911 and they've saved the best for it. Perhaps I've just got a very good one this time who knows.
Fit a tubi or techart and the sound is immense too, especially when you turn it up and you can feel the extra power of the sports exhaust too. They're pretty bullet proof by all accounts and with the prices as low as they are you could pick up a great low mileage high spec one still under warranty for far less than a 4S and I suspect you would loose much less on depreciation than the 997 too.
I've toyed a few times of changing mine for the 997 but I could never bring myself to do it. I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with the 996TT.

Its the 997 for me, 4S, no contest. I just love the look and feel of the car so much more than the 996. Quite fancy going back to a N/A car for this one.

Both amazing, but the 997 ticks all the boxes for me. ;)
