Morning All
Just thought I would put a post on here about a good experience I had recently. I posted a thread on the GT3 forum recently about a friend's 997 GT3 not handling the way it should after several trips to his local OPC. Well he finally got it all sorted and is off to Spa on Saturday for a blast. The place he took it to was local to us in Essex called Torque Developments International (TDI). I was very lucky as I was given a chance to have my 997 Turbo looked at for free. As it turned out the car was pretty well set up already and was just a few minor tweeks but that still helped to transmit the feeling of the car to me even more so a definite improvement. These guys have been in motorsport for a long time and they are looking to get more involved with the Porsche fraternity. Apologies to the moderators if I appear to be 'plugging' them but they were very professional and extremely courteous chaps who obviously have a wealth of experience. Their equipment looked uber expensive!!!
I thought I would just say to anyone in London and Essex etc to give these guys a call as they are looking for other Porsche models to do a free Geo diagnostic. They have seen a 997 turbo a 997 GT3 but I think they are looking for Boxsters, Caymans and other models of 911 inclu air cooled to gain even more experience and I believe the first through the door will be free.
Here is a link to their site and you can see mine and my friends car in their past blogs.

Cheers for the recomendation Ben, always good to hear about someone looking after the geo properly.
As you may have seen, we're aware that the geo can alter the feeling of the 997 quite a bit..
I had mine looked at a few times over the years and each time the car felt better...

No problems at all Gary more competition in this market can only end up being a good thing for us all and I thought their enthusiasm was a real breath of fresh air.
On another note thank you for all your hard work over the years on this forum your source of help and info has always been invaluable to us all.
Good luck with the new toy.

Best

Ben

I use Center Gravity near Wolves. Chris is an expert in his field and nothing misses his beady eye. [;)]

Wolves!! crikey- thats half an hour away!! [;)]
Yes, A lot of us use Chris (myself included) and he welcomed us for an open day earlier in the year, however I think we can appreciate that sometimes he's that busy and sometimes it's nice to find an alternative more local to an owner..

Had these guys set up my 997 GT3 and just got back my 964 wow what a difference in both cars.
Whilst there another pcgb member had left them he's 996 Turbo.
He's gonna be real pleased with that whoever he is??
Be quick as they still want more models to complete their repertoire of Porsches and each first car gets set up free .
This won't be the case when they have a magazine shoot which is happening shortly by one of the well know Porsche Mags.
The offers open to all models including boxsters, caymans panameras and cayennes as well obviously 911's.
personally with no affiliation I can't recommend these guys enough.
They are well known in other circles.
Good luck

Any other recommendations for geo setup in the London / Herts / Essex area? Roughly how much does it cost for a 997?

Welcome to the forum Paurush, glad you made it here[:)]
Rough costs are £300, which you could consider the better handling and possible better tyre wear makes it a saving [:)]

Just so you know JZM quoted me £650 plus vat for a geo setup on my 997 gt3.
If u get to TDI quick enough you'll get it done for nothing.
I paid £462 for mine but that's before they decided to cover all Porsche models so offered the free setup for the 1st models they saw.
Trust me my 997 was totally changed.
Give them a buzz and ask for mark or Sam for a chat and mention me.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers

Thanks I will give them a call

I am booked in for an appointment with TDI. Does anyone have an recommeded geo settings for a 997.2S?

Mine were set up to :
Front +0.03' toe in each side = +0.06' total. Camber -0.57'

Rear +0.10' toe in each side = +0.20' total Camber -1.35'

This seems to work well for the Carreras and Turbos.
and gives a nice neutral set up. Of course GT3s have a much more aggressive neg. camber

The cars seem to have less front camber and more rear from the factory which increases understeer. As the suspension settles with time you get even more rear camber which wears out the inner edge of the tyre (more) quickly.

Depends on what you want the car to do. More agility, more stability, less tyre wear, more or less oversteer... Everything's a compromise somewhere, but speak to the person doing your geo and tell them what you want. If they're any good they'll know what settings to dial in to give you the handling characteristics you want.

Personally I like my cars with front toe out and maximum camber, and the rears almost standing straight up but I know that won't work for everyone.

That's the best part. It's Taylor made to what u want and your driving style.
That's what the real experts can do for you not just some default setting.
Speak with Sam and mark about your preferences.

Generally what you want are stock settings throughout and an increase in negative camber depending on how many track days you'll do/how aggressive a driver you are. Playing around with nose- out is a very aggressive setting that is mostly used by serious track day people. (As Dan says, it depends on what you like). It's also about reaching an acceptable balance between tyre wear and performance. There's no point having aggressive settings that will kill your tyres if you're not going to need them.

Make sure they don't just give you 'Net' green (ie when you net the left and right angles you get within factory tolerances). Its amateurish. You want individual green on both sides. (Green is the colour the settings turn to on the printout when within tolerance, red is the opposite)

That's absolutely spot on however, these guys work within far tighter tolerances than Porsche and other geo specialists I tried previously.
Sam there lectures race teams how to set up their cars and they work closely with race teams and manufacturers such as Aston and lotus to prepare their cars.
The equipment is far superior to most. Go take a look at their website.
As Rodney says its important they Taylor a setup to your driving needs/style which they will 100% do for you and if you want the settings changed hereafter they will no hassle.
Bens turbo needed very little adjustment for he's driving style and they could tell the car had been geo'd by the previous owner so just a slight adjustment for HES requirements needed.
