997 Bonnet alignment with bumper section

Not sure if anyone else has noiced this or thinks its a problem worth worrying about:

If you look along the line of the edge of the front of the bonnet, where it meets the gap between itself and the bumper section, my bonnet is aligned significantly lower than the bumper, approximately 5 millimeters but this varies by about about =/- 50% along the line

I've heard this is common from the dealer, and also a friend recently collected another with a similar but not so severe build defect. Questions I have fo rthe forum are:

- has anyone else noticed it
- is it worth complaining about
- if common, is this a build quality issue(all other panels are near perfect)

cheers

My 987S is similar - although not as much as 5mm. I was informed that the inconsistency is due to the bonnet being made of aluminium - and the recessing is to prevent wind noise and water ingress.

Noticed the same thing, although I thought it was an optical illusion when standing in front of the vehicle, will go and check just how much lower the bonnet is.

It has been a bit of a 'feature' on Porsches since the 993. The bonnet is probably correct, although may need a bit of adjustment, but the pu front section may not be quite as straight.

One thing I noticed on the 987/997 was the black plastic front no. plate bracket is now smaller than the no. plate. On the 986/996 the no. plate sat inside this bracket and looked much neater. Anyone else noticed this trivial observation?

It is supposed to be lower to prevent windnoise - as Delbox says above.
(Funny old thing aerodynamics!)

You might be able to even it out - are there rubber cone-shaped things at the front corners of the bonnet? (There is on 986's/987's) these screw in and out by twisting them, and are designed to be used to even-out the panel fit of the bonnet.

I tried that idea Mark; however, all that happens is that you can raise or lower the edges - as the middle is held in place (recessed) by the retaining catch. The end result is a concave look to the leading edge of the bonnet and the consequent risk of stressing the aluminium. I've just learned to live with it!

Delbox,

I meant adjust only to even the height out (Robinsco said his varies).
As you pointed out - it is supposed to be lower than the bumper.

Mine is lower by about 2mm but is consistant across width of panel. Possibly slightly less at the corners. I'm happy with the fit though considering the materials involved.
