Sat in a 997 "S" on Saturday and have to say Porsche interior designers have lost the plot [] The centre console / sat nav surround has a plastic that doesn't colour match the rest of the ali look plastics used through out and it looks very Jap circa 1970's [] Check it out at the launches you guys might be going to and then ask the sales persons "What the feck is going on here then" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

How come the press keep bumming up the higher quality materials and finishes in the 997 v 996 even the salesman showing me around said the interior leaves a lot to be desired still far too many painted plastics and not enough real metal work [&o]

I should have been clearer the leathers, stitchwork and switches etc are all above previous efforts its the painted non matching plastics that don't fit in with Porsche new found qualities spoiling the ship for halfpenny of tar syndrome [&o]

Sorry,

Have to differ. The one I saw - Ocean Blue - had colour/paint/tactile quality way ahead of my 996.

Just got back from the launch, interior finish way above my 996.
Also bear in mind all the new recycling cr*p that car manufactures have to think of nowaday, cost effective to paint plastic and not use metals, but I fully understand what your saying.
The S had an great stiched interior, even across the tops of the door side.

Are you saying that car manufacturers should be exempt from any form of environmental recycling responsibilty ?

Wish I could check out the interior. Our OPC is not having a launch of the 997 until "sometime in November" when the new Boxster is out... []

Test drove the Tip Carrera and then the Manual S yesterday afternoon. The Carrera was (i was told) a mis-build! Leather seats, but non std vinyl dash top and trimmings. Initially not impressed with the numerous squeaks and groans from the dash binnacle, and noticeable tyre noise - v poor for a £60K car. Then drove the Carrera S with std UK full leather. Much better, no squeaks and tyre noise not as noticeable. Perhaps the 19" tyres are different compound?

The squeakmobile what size wheels was it running on? Dealer isn't doing himself or the car any favours offering demo's with all that racket going on.[]

At my launch there was a "misbuild" Carrera without full leather. Full leather really makes an enormous difference.

No, not in the slightist, everybody has their place.. But they are being expected to jump through hoops. and at the end of the day the car manufacturers are going to have to do it and indeed at a cost, but the only money they get comes from the customers. Namely you and I, we will be paying for it.

I poked around the 2 cars in the showroom in Chiswick on Sunday and was not particularly bowled over with the quality of the cabin plastics. The leccy seat switches reminded me of the 200,000 mile Peugeot 406 minicab I was in the night before, the headlight switch was a bit nastly, the tiptronic controls didn' have any Germanically engineeried tactillity to it and the door handle on the outside is a step backwards. That said, the sports seats and the 3 spoke steering wheel I thought were extremely nice, as was the leather dash finish and the stalks. The S looked good on the 19" wheels which do look like a nightmare to keep clean.

Gary, interestingly, I thought the build quality on the used 996's in the showroom was better.

Is just me?
Every one moans about the 996's interior, but it's always looked ok to me. The 997 is better in some area's (the centre tunnel is less plastic like than the 996!) but I don't like the upright dash, particularly on the passenger side & there are now too many buttons & plastic silver bit's. Overall I think it's a draw between old & new!
