997 clutch

Hi I just bought a c4s manual and trying to get use to how high the clutch pedal is to my brake pedal. It is approx 25 mm higher.
My question is can the clutch pedal be adjusted so it is the same as my brake pedal.
Thanks,
Rob

A high clutch pedal can also indicate the clutch is worn. When you drive the car how quickly does the clutch start to slip if you start depressing the clutch pedal while accelerating?

I've just had a look at my C4 997.1, I'd say the pedals are pretty even, the clutch pedal might be a few mm higher; done about 27k on the current clutch.

The bit is about half way,the mileage is 26,000,if i measure from the front to the front of the pedel its approx 165 mm.
Thanks
Rob.

Yes Angusu you were right just been in for a check and needs a new clutch, only done 100 miles in it from when i bought it from a opc dealer (with 2 years Warranty)
last week in November 2016.

ok great, I hope it is under warranty for you as you just purchased the car from dealer. I should imagine it's a big job to remove the engine. Once it's done it will feel like a new car with only 26K on the clock......enjoy it and drive it! Summer is coming :)

I don't think there doing it under Warranty but doing it as a good will as iv only just bought it off them.
Total cost £1589 +vat.So a thumbs up to Porsche.
Thanks again,
Rob.

I think they should've done a better price than that considering they sold the car knowing full well the clutch was on it's last legs
does seem very short life span for clutch?
in my gen 1 turbo first clutch replaced at 72000 miles on a manual

Hi Rob,

I tend to agree with unclewinks if you mean that you have to pay the £1589. They might just be testing you out to see if you will pay up.......the mileage is irrelevant as the corner driver might have just ridden the clutch everywhere they went. But the fact that you only purchased in November and have only covered 100 mile surely means that it was not you that wore out the clutch.

If your up for it, go back to them and say that you have taken further advice and you have been advised that they should cover this cost and if they do so then you will gladly come back for regular servicing in the future.

They could have met you halfway
also get them to check or replace the ims while the work is being done
regards
paul

Hi Guys,
Had nothing to pay as it was done as a good will because i only just bought the car.
They did try a make me pay half but i refused as i paid top money for the car for a 2006 model (its mint).
So all work completed today and a good result.
Thanks angusc and unclewinks for your reply's and advise they were most help full, ims is okay as well.
regards
Rob.

Sorry for butting in, but my clutch does feel very heavy to push, is this normal for 997 ? and there is a rattling noise when sat at traffic lights when its hot (but not when cold), I asked the OPC and they said the gearbox can rattle on tick over and its nothing to worry about....
Are they correct ? or fobbing me off ?

yes my clutch is heavy, the wife doesn't like it :) that mean I get to drive it all the time ;)

Is the rattle with clutch pedal down or up? Does the rattle change with the clutch pedal position? I can't say that I have ever noticed any rattle from my 997 gearbox.
